very importantly &#8211; irrigation. \u00a0 The US paid for the construction of the Canadian dams and pays Canada for downstream benefits based on very low, hydroelectric generation rates, despite the fact that the use they put that water to often has considerably higher value.\u00a0 <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"x193iq5w xeuugli x13faqbe x1vvkbs xlh3980 xvmahel x1n0sxbx x1lliihq x1s928wv xhkezso x1gmr53x x1cpjm7i x1fgarty x1943h6x xudqn12 x3x7a5m x6prxxf xvq8zen xo1l8bm xzsf02u x1yc453h\" dir=\"auto\">The irrigation of 500,000 acres of land in the Columbia Basin that was transformed from &#8220;heat, wheat and rattlesnakes&#8221;
